Hyde Park Residence

The house is positioned on a 543m2 site in an inner suburb of Adelaide at the end of a cul-de-sac. The external focus of the house is on the northerly-placed lap pool, timber deck and eastern Japanese garden. High boundary walls provide open spaces that give both a sense of privacy and containment whether entertaining or relaxing. The rectilinear design of the house with openable highlight windows to the entry foyer and central courtyard assist with cross ventilation. The extra deep external rendered brick veneer walls produce sun shading and a good thermal and sound insulation whilst visually "grounding" the building. Light and air quality has been taken into consideration for each room utilizing their respective courtyards by providing a different visual experience from each opening. The cantilevered flat steel deck roof overhangs provide protection over summer sun whilst allowing the winter rays to supply warmth to the interiors. The choice of timber decking gives comfort visually, physically and thermally.
